Project Name: Integrated and Industrialized Application of Intensive, Efficient, Low-Carbon Wastewater Treatment Fluidized Biofilm Technology

Project Overview:

After more than a decade of intensive research and engineering practice, this project has achieved systematic innovation in wastewater treatment technology—thanks to the strong support from major national science and technology programs such as the National Water Special Project. Not only have we broken through international monopolies, but we’ve also successfully addressed several long-standing bottlenecks that have historically plagued conventional wastewater treatment technologies.

- Innovation in Core Technology Systems: We were the first to propose and develop a fluidized biofilm-coupled magnetic coagulation technology for wastewater denitrification and dephosphorization, tailored to meet stringent emission standards. This breakthrough significantly reduces land use while enhancing the system’s volumetric nitrogen removal capacity, ultimately leading to dual reductions in both costs and energy consumption.

- Innovative advancements in key technological equipment: We have pioneered the development of a low-energy fluidization method for biofilm carriers, along with a durable fluidized biofilm carrier interception technology. These innovations significantly reduce energy consumption and equipment wear, while also shortening the construction timeline.

- Innovative new material approach: We have established a method for characterizing biofilm carrier performance, developed highly efficient fluidized biofilm carriers, and successfully scaled up their industrial production and application.

Outcomes and Impact:

This technological achievement has resulted in 18 authorized invention patents, 7 utility model patents, 2 design patents, and 5 software copyrights. Additionally, 23 research papers have been published, including 8 papers indexed in SCI journals. The technology has been successfully applied to municipal wastewater treatment projects, high-ammonia-nitrogen industrial water treatment initiatives, and low-concentration river water treatment projects across multiple provinces and cities, with a total treatment capacity reaching 4.2 million tons per day. Over the past three years, cumulative sales have totaled 662 million yuan.

Background of the Environmental Technology Advancement Award:

The Environmental Technology Progress Award, established by the China Environmental Protection Industry Association, aims to encourage technological innovation within the industry and foster an integrated innovation system that combines industry, academia, research, and application. Each year, the winning projects generate output worth up to 30 billion yuan and have resulted in more than 1,500 patents, making the award a key driver of advancements in environmental protection technology.
