On April 14, the scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for “Construction of a Key Technical System for Synergistic Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Mitigation in Urban–Rural Wastewater Treatment Systems and Its Industrial Application,” led by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Environmental Protection Science Research Institute and with Huahong Water Affairs Group as a major participating institution, was successfully held in Wuzhou City.

On April 14, a scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting for the project “Construction of a Key Technological System for Synergistic Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Mitigation in Urban–Rural Wastewater Treatment Systems and Its Industrial Application,” led by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Environmental Protection Science Research Institute and with Huahong Water Services Group as a major participating entity, was successfully held in Wuzhou City.

The expert committee comprises leading domestic authorities in the environmental protection field from institutions including the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Environmental Protection Industry Association, South China University of Technology, Guangxi Minzu University, Tianjin University, Guangxi Vocational and Technical College of Water Resources and Electric Power, and Hualan Design (Group) Co., Ltd. In accordance with the standards and procedures set forth in the Interim Measures for the Pilot Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Achievements issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China, the committee conducted a comprehensive and scientifically rigorous evaluation of the project outcomes of “Construction of a Key Technology System for Synergistic Pollution Reduction and Carbon Emission Mitigation in Urban–Rural Wastewater Treatment Systems and Its Industrial Application,” jointly developed by the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Institute of Environmental Sciences, Huahong Water Services Group, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, the South China Institute of Environmental Sciences under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Guangxi University, and the CAS Low‑Carbon Digital Research Institute.

Prior to the evaluation, the expert committee conducted an on-site inspection of the wastewater demonstration site where the technology has been implemented. Since the facility was commissioned, it has operated steadily and efficiently, producing effluent of excellent quality that meets both the Class I standard of the “Emission Standard for Water Pollutants from Rural Domestic Wastewater Treatment Facilities” (DB 45/2413-2021) and the Class 1A standard of the “Emission Standard for Pollutants from Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants” (GB 18918-2002), thereby fully demonstrating the outstanding performance and reliability of this technological system in the field of wastewater treatment.

At the meeting, following review and deliberation, the expert committee unanimously concluded that the “integrated technology system for full‑process pollution reduction and carbon mitigation in urban wastewater treatment plants,” the “zoned and classified governance model for rural domestic wastewater along with low‑carbon operation and maintenance technologies,” as well as the optimized methodology and system for accounting urban–rural wastewater carbon emissions, all possess significant scientific value and practical relevance for effectively optimizing energy consumption and carbon‑emission management in wastewater treatment facilities. This achievement not only synergistically enhances environmental governance and resource recovery but also pioneers innovative low‑carbon operation and maintenance technologies for wastewater treatment, thereby providing robust support for the nation’s efforts to attain its “dual carbon” goals. The expert committee unanimously determined that the project has reached an internationally leading level of performance; its widespread application will substantially improve regional aquatic ecological quality and furnish critical technical support for the green, low‑carbon transformation of the wastewater treatment sector.

Going forward, Huahong Water Group will focus on addressing the key challenges and pain points in the wastewater treatment sector, leveraging artificial intelligence to drive innovative approaches to domestic wastewater management, accelerating the commercialization and dissemination of technological advances, continuously refining its pollution‑reduction and carbon‑mitigation technology framework, and fostering a green, low‑carbon transformation of the industry—thereby contributing even more to the cause of environmental protection.
